ISI AWARDED SBIR PHASE II FUNDING FOR NOVEL NETWORKING SYSTEM
MCLEAN, VA., Mar 4, 2009 – Innovative Solutions International, Inc.
The Joint Forces Command of the Department of Defense (DoD JFCOM) has funded ISI’s Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract for the Dynamic Secure Tracking and Reporting (DSTAR) system. DSTAR is a messaging and position reporting system with dynamic control of grouping and administration with secure communications.
DSTAR is designed for personnel recovery and has capabilities that make it more broadly useful. Groups of DSTAR users can be assembled quickly. All administrative actions may be done from field locations. User groups can communicate and be notified of each other’s real-time position. The DSTAR network can operate over a variety of radios, satellites, conventional networks, or other communication devices including low-bandwidth situations.
The low network overhead of DSTAR results in fast messaging and position reporting. The network’s versatility helps existing systems interoperate. The secure communications allow many groups to use the same network in privacy for normal operations, and to gain interaction in cases of emergency.
Bob Loh, ISI’s President and CEO says, “DSTAR has great promise in supporting a variety of networks both in and outside the DoD. Despite technical progress, there will always be important areas such as civil aviation having bandwidth and networking constraints where a secure messaging and position network provides greater safety and security.”
