ISI AWARDED CONTRACT BY NEXTGEN INSTITUTE

MCLEAN, Va., Sept 30, 2008 – Innovative Solutions International, Inc. ISI is pleased to announce it has been awarded a contract for Phase II of the Project “Optimizing Aircraft Sequencing and Spacing in the Airport Terminal Area.” The award is a result of our successful performance on Phase I. Official announcement of the award can be accessed on the Next Generation Air Transportation System Institute’s website at http://www.ncat.com/ngats/ngats_tasksFY08.html.

In this project, ISI investigates the integration of Communication, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) technologies to reduce fuel burn, emissions and noise, and reduce terminal area airspace congestion. The research will illustrate increases in airport throughput by demonstrating how combining currently-available CNS/ATM (Air Traffic Management) technologies can optimize aircraft flight tracks, sequencing, and timing in the terminal area airspace. ISI President and CEO, Mr. Bob Loh stated, “The application of Continuous Descent Arrivals (CDA), Merging and Spacing Software, Terminal Area Path Approaches, and real-time communications in the airport environment has the potential to provide significant benefits to all aviation stakeholders: fuel savings and lower emissions for airlines; lower noise profiles for local residences; reduced air traffic controller workload for FAA; fewer delays for passengers; and most importantly, an improvement in safety. We want to demonstrate that all this can be accomplished with today's technologies and today's aircraft.”

The solution to issues of this complexity is not embodied in a single technology. It encompasses processes as well as equipment. A suite of integrated technologies also allows the air traffic system and the commercial air carriers to develop new operational procedures that meet the increasing demands for greater efficiency, lower noise, and lower emissions across the fleet. ISI’s project team, composed of Innovative Solutions International, Georgia Tech and AMTI, is committed to improving America’s airspace.
